Windows 10: my laptop runs on the external hdd I have , how to fix it ?

So I have a external hdd which I always connect it to my laptop . But whenever I connect it before turning on the laptop , it looks like the laptop is running on the external hdd . I say this because when I turn on the pc with external hdd plugged in , the windows logo on startup looks more stretched and when I plug the hdd out , the blue screen comes . Is it actually running on the hdd ? And is there an option to make it not run on it ?

Usually, this problem occur due to software incompatibility or corrupted USB drivers. For us to better assist you, we would like to clarify the following:

• Have you made any recent changes on your computer prior to the issue?
• Which driver did you uninstall? Have you reinstall the driver? If yes, how did you reinstall the driver?
• Have you check if the external HDD is visible in Device Manager?

If the issue still persists after uninstalling some games, we suggest that you run the troubleshooter for hardware and devices. If you're using the latest Windows 10 version, follow these steps on how to run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter:

• Click the Start button and select the Settings
  icon.
• Choose Update & Security from the list.

diagnose external HDD

Thanks to all for our suggestions. I'm still working on this, but need to bow out for a day or two. Here's what I've tried so far:

• downloaded crystaldiskinfo and the HDD doesn't show there either.
• Tried jumanji suggestion #8and get "about:blank#blocked". could be my firewall but haven't gotten that message for a while
• My HDD is not in a case
• I can't use a UDB c cable on this drive. It has one of those long mini connectors with a long and short side
• Device Driver shows no yellow triangles (see image)
• I have a Windows 10 laptop but haven't tried the drive there (yet) Yes, my desktop is the Acer mentioned in my profile

 

How to boot to a external hard drive from a Dell inspiron 15-5555 windows 10 and run vista home premium from the external hdd

I have purchased a Dell Inspiron 15-5555 laptop with Windows 10. I want to change the boot drive to an external hdd connected to the laptop via usb port so I can run an application (USBC'S WinLabs) which is not compatible with Winows 10. The external
hdd already has Windows Vista Home Premium installed. In fact, the externall hdd is fromthe desktop system I had that failed. I can read all the files on the external hdd so I know the files are ok. I just want to boot to the external hdd run under Vista.
any suggestions?
