Windows 10: My laptop sometimes shuts down when I put it to sleep for some time and I have to hold the...

This has been happening for a few weeks now and it has never happened before. It happens almost every day, typically when I leave my laptop asleep for an hour or more. I close the screen, and when I come back later, it doesn't turn on automatically as it should. Instead, I have to hold the power button for about 30 seconds to start it up. How can I fix this?

Computer shuts down instead of going in to sleep mode

Since two weeks my Dell laptop is shutting down every time when:

• Closing the laptop
• Pressing the power button short
• Manually via the Start Menu

All these options are set to Sleep Mode and not Shut Down.

My laptop is an Acer Aspire V3-571G. I have followed the two methods listed in your post to no avail.

However, I do have some more info regarding the issue. As it turns out, the laptop will only turn off in sleep mode after some time has passed. I am not sure how much time is required for it to shut down, only that it does. Sorry for not listing that in
the first post, I didn't notice until earlier today.

Is it possible that there is a setting that determines how long the computer will sleep until it shuts down?

It is still possible to use the keyboard shortcuts keys to shutdown your computer by following the steps below:

• Make sure you are on the desktop page.
• Press and hold ALT + F4.
• Shut Down Windows will open and you can use arrow keys to either Sleep,
  Sign out, Shut down, or Restart.
• Hit Enter on preferred choice and the mode will take effect.
