Windows 10: My laptop will not connect to the internet but will connect then disconnect almost 5...

Okay, so let me break down how this all started:On January 19th this year, I closed my laptop screen for a few hours and turned it back on shortly afterwards. When I did, I could not connect to the internet at all. I tried everything I could to turn it back on, per usual of what all sources tell you:- Update and uninstall/reinstall drivers- Change Power Saving Mode under Wireless Adapter Settings to maximum performance- Run troubleshooter- Network reset- Restart the computer itselfAnd none of these things worked. Is there a solution to this I'm not figuring out? System manufacturer is HP, for

Connecting Laptop to the Internet, No connection

Trying to connect to the Internet using my Laptop. (not via the wireless router, but through the Ethernet cable)

My existing PC is connected to the Internet via an Ethernet cable, which is connected to the Broadband Modem (Virgin).

What I have tried to do, is take the Ethernet cable from my PC and connect it to the Laptop... Unfortunately, the Laptop isnt connecting to the Internet...

I have tried repairing the Network, with no success.

I am using the same cable, which was connected to the PC...

I do get error messages, when I click on repair in the Network Connection Tab. Its says it cannot assign an IP address.

I am Using Windows XP Home Edition.

I've tried using the Ping via cmd ping localhost or 127.0.0.1

I get the following results -

Packets: Sent = 4, Recieved = 4, Lost = 0(0%0)

Also done the following -

1. Start Internet Explorer.
2. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
3. Click the Connections tab.
4. Under Dial-up and VPN Settings, click the broadband connection, click Settings, and then click Automatically detect settings.
5. Click OK.


..... with no luck

What do I do guys?

 

Connect and Disconnect internet

I just need to click the network icon in notification area, select my WiFi network and click Connect / Disconnect:





Selecting Connect automatically I don't have to enter the network security key manually:

 

Wireless connection for my laptop disconnects

Are you 100% sure its the signal that is dropping.

Sometimes the router's signal can be connected but the internet drops because of other factors like the modem. Coincidentally, about 10mins ago my internet connection hung but the wireless signal was still connected and strong. I had to reset the modem to fix it.

I think I might need a new modem soon.
