  1. My laptop will not recognize the USB drive on my router.

I use an external hard drive to back up my computer nightly located on a USB port on my router. My 2 new computers running Windows 11 will not recognize this drive, although my old computer running Windows 10 has no problems finding it. Both Windows 11 computers find each other and the old computer running Windows 10 on the network, but not the back-up drive. I have checked all of the network settings in the system settings and they are set correctly. I have also checked all of the settings on the router and they seem to be correct. My 2 new computers are Dell Inspiron 3520 running Windows 1

    :)

    usb drive not recognized

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you get an error, ‘USB device not recognized’ when connecting a USB drive. I’ll certainly assist you with the issue.

    However, please let us know:

    • May I know the update that was installed? To check go to
Start >> Settings >> Update & Security >> Windows Update >> View update history.
    • Does the issue occur with only one USB drive?
    • Which build version of Windows 10 is installed on the computer? Refer
Which version of Windows operating system am I running?

I would suggest you to try plugging the USB to a different USB port and check if that helps. You can also try connecting the USB to a different computer and check.

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the article
Error: “USB Device not recognized" when you try to access
    a USB external hard drive
except Method 1 & 2 and see if that makes any difference.

Let us know the results, we will be glad to help you further.

Unable to Access USB Drive on Wifi Router from laptop

I am using an **** Surfboard AC1750 router that has a USB port. I have a USB drive plugged into this port. My desktop is connected to an ethernet port on the router. My laptop (Windows 10 with latest update) connects
    to the wifi network.

I am able to see and access the USB drive on the wifi router from the desktop.

From my laptop, the USB drive on the wifi router shows up as a Media Device. So I can see some of the images/photos stored on the USB drive connected to the wifi router, but not non-media files.

I use a USB dongle on laptop to access wifi. I borrowed a neighbor's laptop and connected with the same usb dongle. I am able to access the usb drive with this other laptop. I checked the settings on that computer,
and cannot tell whats different from my laptop.

I went to the router page and made sure that file sharing was turned on.

Any suggestions/advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.
