Windows 10: My laptop windows 11 during login page keyboard cannot type letters but numbers and...

My laptop windows 11 during login page keyboard cannot type letters but numbers and function key all can type. I even tried the on screen keyboard also having the same issues. I have did the updates and restart the laptop. The only i can login is to click forget password and press cancel for changing my password, then will only successful get to home page. I did troubleshoot keyboard but nothing appear.

OK, so this is pretty weird. Updated older HP laptop to Win 10 and was working ok. Then upgraded to SSD to see if I could get a couple more years out of her. Worked ok until Creator's update. Then at login, the keyboard wouldn't type letters, only
numbers so couldn't login. Then tried login options and selected Microsoft account. Now the keyboard letters work. What the heck is going on with this?

 

Keyboard typing numbers instead of letters

I understand you are having trouble with your keyboard which types numbers instead of letters. Let me help you with this.

I understand that you have tried the num lock key and it's the same outcome.

Have you tried to press Fn key + Num lock? If not, try it and see if it will fix the concern.

If still it will not fix the issue, follow this steps:

1.Press Windows Key + R then type osk and hit Enter to open On-Screen Keyboard.

2.Turn off Num Lock by clicking on it (If it is ON it will be shown in different color).

3.If you can’t see the Num lock then click on Options.

4.Checkmark “Turn on numeric key pad” and click OK.

5.This will enable the NumLock option and you could easily turn it off.

6.Reboot your PC to save changes.

Lastly, sometimes 3rd party software can conflict with Hardware such as Keyboard and can cause this issue. In order to Fix Keyboard Typing Numbers Instead of Letters issue, you need to perform a clean boot on your PC .

1. Press windows key + R, then type msconfig.

2. Select In General tab, select Selective Start up, put a check mark on load system services and unchecked "Load start up items".

Keyboard doesn't work, cannot type letters on login screen

My Dell XPS 13 9370 has this issue where i cannot enter any letters into my password pin on the login screen. The numbers work fine as well as all the other function keys. Only the letters and on the login page. I can login using facial or fingerprint
and the keyboard works fine. But everytime i boot it up and try to type my password in it doesn't work. I have tried uninstalling the keyboard drivers but it doesn't seem to solve my problem. Has anyone faced the same issue? And how did you fix it? thanks
