My laptop’s brightness no longer functions even when it's 100%. I can only see my screen with the help of the sun or flashlight. What would probably be the cause and how can I fix it?

Screen brightness on laptop changing to 100%

Hi everyone, I work on a laptop (Asus ROG i7-7gen, WIN 10 latest updates, NVIDIA 1050Ti latest updates) and 2 external screens and somewhat randomly the laptop screen (not the external monitors) changes brightness to 100%.

This happens more frequently when I start using VLC player to watch a video or when starting the Adobe suite (LR, PS). These programs are usually started on the external monitors but the laptop screen changes brightness. Sometimes it happens randomly too while browsing or working in MS office.

When that happens i go right click > screen settings and change to 20-30% and it stays there for some time but randomly changes again when VLC is re-started and sometimes when I just keep working in other programs.

Recently it started happening on another laptop ( HP Elitebook ) as well (both started starting also staring up on 100% screen brightness on laptop screen . I use WIN10, VLC player and Bitdefender on both.

Both laptops are up to date on software and drivers.

Any ideas? Grateful for any suggestions as this is mildly annoying …

Unable to Change Screen Brightness of Laptop


So I'm not sure how long this has been happening but for some reason, I can't change the brightness on my laptop screen. I have linked a picture and as you can see, my brightness says 0% and that I can't change it, however my actual brightness is at 100%. I have looked around everywhere and the only responses I have found don't work for me. Here's a list of everything I have tried:
- Reinstalling Display Drivers
- Rolling Back Display Drivers
- Reset Settings on UWT4
- Power and Battery Settings
(UWT4 or Ultimate Windows Tweaker 4 is a customizer for Windows 10 and I thought that might be the problem but it wasn't)

If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this, it's greatly appreciated! Thanks! -

Some computers can let Windows automatically adjust screen brightness based on the current lighting conditions.

To manually adjust the screen brightness, we suggest following these troubleshooting steps:

• Click Start, then select Settings.
• Choose System, then select Display.
• Under Brightness and color, move the Change brightness slider to adjust the brightness.
