Windows 10: My laptop's ID appearing on the list of networks

I am slightly concerned that my laptop's ID is on a list of networks, what I mean is that when Im on my phone and turn on the wifi, it shows a list of wifi connections available, one of those being my laptops ID, I cannot upload the screenshot from my phone for some reason but here's what it says: "DIRECT-ALLAPTOP-SPP5HT61msVP". I assumed the VP at the end meant VPN but I don't have the laptops VPN on or anything. To why, I'm slightly concerned is because, wifi connections have been slower going from 20mb/s to about 5mb/s download speed, I cannot watch youtube videos at a high quality on the

Laptop won't show list of available networks

We suggest checking the list of available Wi-Fi networks on your laptop.

Please follow these steps:

• Click the Windows logo.
• Go to Settings (gear icon).
• Select Network and Internet.
• Then Wi-Fi.
• Make sure the Wi-Fi radio button is On.
• Select Show available networks, then you'll be able to see the list of available Wi-Fi networks.

Mystery Phone Listing on Network


That's actually been happening in Windows for a long time, even back to windows 8 I was seeing it randomly appear (it can be different devices). It seems to be some kind of false positive detection.

Some suggest that this is neighbors connecting to your wifi network. The idea is that the MAC address may be propogated, even though these neighbors are not actually authorized for your network (ie, your router is advertising these mac addresses, but they can't actually use your network, but for some reason they still show up in the list of connected devices).

When you check your WIFI router, the devices won't be listed there, since they haven't been given IP's.. but something in the network architecture still allows MAC advertisement.
