Windows 10: My Lenovo laptop refuses to start or show any default Microsoft programs such as the Store,...

Recently, I ran into a significant problem concerning my Lenovo laptop. The first sign was an error message which stated something along the lines of "Windows cannot find C:\ProgramFiles... LenovoUtility... make sure you have typed the name correctly and try again. On my taskbar, there are empty gaps where the Microsoft Store, Lenovo Vantage program, and Mail used to be, and when clicking on them to open them, the program opens then closes within moments. Additionally, the Windows search bar does not operate which makes troubleshooting quite a hassle and that my File Explorer does not look the way that it used to, with only "Frequent Folders" and "Recent Files" appearing.


I have tried a variety of methods to try to fix this, including disabling Lenovo Vantage, deleting and reinstalling Lenovo Vantage, troubleshooting with Windows which did not work, using PowerShell, and finally attempting to reset the entire PC, which it was unable to do.


Any advice or help on how to fix this problem will be greatly appreciated.

Microsoft signals end of Paint program

Microsoft has confirmed that it will continue to offer its graphics program Paint.

In a recent update, it had listed Paint as a feature that would be either removed or no longer developed.

Paint, renowned for its simplicity, has been part of the Windows operating system since its launch in 1985.

Microsoft suggested it would not remain on Windows 10 by default but did say it would be available for free on the Windows Store.

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild

Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

 

Microsoft Edge and Mail programs

I ran the steps to reinstall Windows 10 default apps after Defender showed no problems. I have my mail program back but instead of Edge I have Internet Explorer. Edge has got to be on this machine somewhere because when I clicked on a hyperlink in an e-mail
(that I trust) it opened in Edge. But I can't find edge in the programs.

If I click on start and type Microsoft Edge a list comes up with the Edge icon at the top and further down Edge is listed. I have tried right clicking and pinning to start but nothing happens. I have tried double left clicking to try to open but nothing
happens.

Any other suggestions?
