Windows 10: My main desktop stopped working after uninstalling OneDrive.

After uninstalling OneDrive from my PC, i can't use my main desktop the one where you can see your wallpaper anymore. My desktop folder was in OneDrive. All of my icons are also messed up. If i try to install anything and include the add desktop shortcut, it doesn't show up in the main desktop. Instead it showed up in the OneDrive Desktop folder. When i try clicking on the shortcuts that was already in the main desktop, it either shows an error saying The target "" of this Internet Shortcut is not valid. Go to the Internet Shortcut property sheet and make sure the target is correct. or it

Windows 10 - OneDrive

Right click on the app and one of the properties has an option to not automatically start it. Uncheck, restart the computer, and it should stop. If you want to go another step further, find the OneDrive app in the start menu, right click on it and uninstall.

Unable to uninstall Onedrive For Business

OneDrive can be uninstalled from some versions of Windows 10:

1. Select the Start button, type Programs in the search box, and then select Add or remove programs in the list of results.
   
2. Under Apps & features, find and select Microsoft OneDrive, and then select Uninstall.
   

As OneDrive is built in to some versions of Windows and can't be uninstalled. As a workaround, you can hide it. Reference “Turn off or uninstall OneDrive” for detail steps:

OneDrive - Bait and switch (but to what?)

Google Drive offers 17GB free, I see no discernible reason to bother with OneDrive's crippled storage capacity.

EDIT: For a painless transfer, I used microsoft's SyncToy to do a daily backup of DropBox/OneDrive items nightly at 4PM to a Google Drive folder. Once I had finished setting up my phone's automatic backup and had my work flow transferred, I just stopped the auto-backup script and uninstalled OneDrive/DropBox and carried on using Google Drive. Switching cloud storage service isn't remotely arduous.
