Windows 10: My mic doesnt work and only makes a static sound

I recently built a brand new pc with windows 10 pro installed. Everything works perfectly fine. The audio is perfect but then when i tried to call my friend, they said they only hear static the entire time. I tested my mic by hearing myself and its true, all i heard was static the entire time. I tried different headphones and earphones, but still the same thing. I learned that the only way my mic worked was if i used a voicechanger app. I dont know why it works but even so, it doesnt sound right to me because i have to talk to pretty loud in order for my mic to detect sound. It makes me think that this is probably a bug and I would really appreciate any help i can get to fix this issue. Thank you.

Win 10 PRO 64 Mic not working/ static or digital noise

I have been having mic issues where its always in the red. I used "voice recorder" and its either static or a digital noise sound, kinda like an old dial up modem.

I tried all the suggested troubleshooting options and nothing worked.

I was messing around in Sound options and under mic, the default sample rate and bit depth was set to 32 bit, 44100 Hz.

I changed it to 16 bit, 19200 Hz and no more static or "digital noise". I can hear myself and it works like it used too.

Control Panel > Sound > Recording > Properties > Advanced. Change to a lower bit rate.

Did anyone else encounter this problem?

The next step is what I suggested originally. Try it in a friend's PC or take it to Best Buy and ask them to try it one of their PC's. Have to confirm the mic is working OK.

This might occur when some of the mic setting got corrupted.

I would suggest you to try running Recording audio troubleshooter.

Follow the below steps:

  Type Troubleshooting in the Search area on the taskbar and select
  Troubleshooting.

  Select Hardware and Sound.
  
• 
  Select Recording Audio under
  Sound and follow the on screen.
