My mic is plugged in, I can hear sound, but I can’t speak to my friends. In settings the headset isn’t recognized as a input device but it has a mic.

Microphone records input and output

I am using a DAW to record microphone inputs on various tracks.

When I hit record, the microphone picks up the DAW's metronome (output) as well as the sound I intended to record. When I play back the track, the metronome has indeed been recorded, along with all the other sounds picked up by the microphone.

When I start another track the input records both the microphone and the playback audio, including all previously recorded tracks and the metronome.

Listen to device has been deselected. There is no environmental effects tab for the microphone. All other inputs and outputs have been disabled. I have customized and reset to defaults from both the Windows settings/sounds panels and the DAW. The inputs
work, and the outputs work, I just want the input to ONLY record the microphone, not all other playback/output signals.

 

Microphone input to speaker output

Some audio processors allow direct routing of the microphone input to the audio output. But this is a hardware feature that can be enabled/disabled. To output the audio from the microphone from an audio interface to another audio interface, you must use the "Listen to this device" option on the microphone device properties or use a third-party audio control application.

 

My headphones will not act as an input and output device

Hi, I have a Astro Gaming A10 headset. My headset has a mic and I'm able to both speak and listen when i use it on Xbox. However when i plug it into my Windows 11 PC it will only detect as an input, allowing me only to speak, or as an output, allowing me only to hear. When i look at the sound settings it will only show the headphones as input or output and will not appear if i click on the opposite setting. These are the microphone specs

• Microphone: 0.24 in (6 mm) uni-directional microphone
  
• Ear coupling: Over-Ear
  
• Connection: 0.14 in (3.5 mm) 5 Pole Jack
  
• Drivers: 1.30 in (33 mm) Neodynamic
  

I made sure to check if my computer was updated and that the headphones are not physically broken. Essentially i can only have input or output on the headphones.
