Windows 10: my microphone will not work on Zoom or messenger.....it used to

my microphone will not work on Zoom or messenger.....it used to. I've tried installing updates, changed privacy settings. uninstalled and restarted etc. it's a laptop with installed Realtek speakers and microphone pre installed. I get told all drivers are up to date.

This message appears.....Device HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_1002&DEV_AA01&SUBSYS_00AA0100&REV_1007\4&19e1fc5e&0&0001 requires further installation.

I'm bewildered. The microphone is functioning fine when I troubleshoot but does not work in normal functions like Zoom or video calls etc.

There are several reasons why the microphone is not working.

For us to isolate the issue, we would like to know the following:

• Was the issue only happening on Facebook/Messenger?
• Did you receive any error messages when accessing it?

Internal microphone issue

The microphone does not seem to be working for either Zoom or Messenger but does work for Skype. We have worked through the various tests - the "Test your microphone" under Sound settings is fine. We have also checked the Privacy settings for the microphone
so "Allow apps to access" is ON , "Allow access to desktop apps" is ON. Zoom appears in the list and shows is has been accessed but it does not record. Messenger did work at first about two weeks ago but then suddenly stopped. We have then installed Zoom as
an alternative but have the same problem. The video works fine, it's just the mic. Any advice please? I'm desperate to be able to use Messenger and Zoom on my laptop for a better experience when talking to my grandchildren. Thank you
