Windows 10: My monthly backup to my Toshiba external hard drive is starting to mess up

For the past 5 years I've used a Toshiba external hard drive to do my monthly backup and it has worked fine. I attempted to a backup two days ago and I received 2 error codes. I have run it numerous times and keep on getting 2 error codes.--0x80780034 and 0x80042308. The error codes have changed but still cannot run my backup. I've gone over the information and still have this problem. My computer has 1 terrabyte hard drive and the Toshiba is the same size. For 5 years it has worked beautifully.But it isn't cooperating this month.I am getting very frustrated and running out of ideas. I

Free hard drive backup/restore program?

I am looking for a free (freeware) program that will back up and restore a hard drive. I'm looking to clone a few external hard drives. If the program will backup the used space instead of the whole drive this will be awesome! Thanks for any suggestions.

I understand that the external hard drive is not recognized by the PC. I appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve the issue.
It would be great if you can answer these questions to assist you in a better way.

• Did you try connecting the Hardrive to different USB Port?
  
• Does the Hardrive get detected if you try connecting it to a different PC?
  
• Are you aware of any changes made to the computer recently?
  

I suggest you refer and follow the steps mentioned in the KB article and check if that resolves the issueError:
“USB Device not recognized” when you try to access a USB external hard drive

Note: Ignore method 2 & 5 from the above article.
