Windows 10: My mouse lights up, but wont work. Why and how to fix it?

My mouse lights up, but somehow, it wont work. I tried removing the batteries and putting it again. I even tried restarting, but alas, it is still lighting up and wont move the cursor. Perhaps, any suggestions or solutions anyone could request?

Mouse not working

I have only one mouse connected to a USB port. The mouse is not working at all. Pointer is not showing on the screen and the mouse light is not even turned on.

I tried to fix it by doing the following things (using the keyboard):

• Changed the ports where mouse is connected
• Tried connecting mouse to another computer (and it works fine)
• Tried another USB port connected mouse (doesn't work either)
• Tried updating drivers (drivers are up to date and it tells me that the device is working properly)
• Tried troubleshooting the problem

Now the troubleshoot detects a driver problem with PS/2 mouse, which is weird because my mouse is connected to a USB port. I apply the fix that the troubleshooter suggest (update drivers) but it fails fixing it. When I open the Device Manager, it shows 2
mouses connected. The mouse connected to the USB port is supposedly working but the PS/2 one (which is not even there) has driver problems. I tried to update, uninstall and reinstall (both) but with no help. I restarted the computer several times and still
nothing. The PS/2 mouse properties shows an error (Code 10). I searched for solution but I have already tried everything suggested to fix the error.

I also noticed that the Windows Defender catches the problem under Health, as a not working driver (again troubleshooter can't fix the problem).

P.S.: This problem has happened before and I reinstalled Windows 10 through the recovery window. It fixed it but here it is again.

What you could try, a sort of Reset if you like . . .

• Unplug the Mouse.
• Shutdown.
• Remove the Power Lead.
• Remove the Battery.
• Wait a couple of minutes . . .
• Put the Battery back in.
• Insert the PowerLead.
• Boot.
• Plug in the Mouse.

If that does NOT work, then try the Mouse in a different Port. Just a thought. I hope this helps.

 

mouse is not working right


unfortunately there isn't a lot to a usb mouse. what i would suggest is checking the power management settings on it.

Right-click the start menu and choose device manager
Expand Universal Serial Bus Controllers at the very bottom
Double-click on each HUB you have listed, click Power Management Tab at the top, and UNCHECK "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power"
You may have HUBs called Generic and Root Hub. Perform the step above on All of them.

If you continue to have the issue, i would imagine your mouse is malfunctioning. Perhaps try another mouse just to be sure. This will help you determine if it is in fact the mouse of computer causing the issue.
