  1. My MS Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 keeps "shutting down" for lack of a better term

For the past week, my wired MS Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 repeatedly just stops working. I can't figure out why. Sometimes it is when I am away from the computer for awhile, other times it happens after just a few seconds. IT loses all power. The lights go out. But when I unplug it and plug it back in, it works fine...for a little while. Bu this is happening 10+ times a day now. I thought it was just a loose cable, but I can't recreate the issue by wiggling the cord on either end.

I checked out the Event Viewer and I can't be sure it is the right entry, but it seems like when it happens, I get Device 'Natural® Ergonomic Keyboard 4000' ({c21b82bb-b811-11e8-9eb6-dc85dec482c9}) has been serviced, processed 4 tasks, wrote 0 properties, active worktime was 5 milliseconds.

And when I unplug it and plug it back in, I get
Device 'NULL' ({c21b84d6-b811-11e8-9eb6-dc85dec482c9}) has been serviced, processed 4 tasks, wrote 0 properties, active worktime was 4 milliseconds.

The Null part seems to suggest something is not being identified. But that is what comes up when I plug it back and in it is (temporarily) fixed.

I also thought it could be because I still had the driver for my the Wireless version of the same keyboard. But I haven't used that for over a year and a half and the issue just started a week ago. But I uninstalled that anyway. However, when I restarted my computer, it came back. I'm not sure why, unless it is because I am still using the Natural Laser Mouse 7000 which was part of the same package when I bought the wireless ones, and is using the same Wireless dongle. But now, no matter hat I do, if I go to Device Manager, I always have two drivers for the Keyboard.

I have everything updated. I didn't have the new Keyboard and Mouse software at first, but now I do. This does not happen with other keyboard, or with the mouse. It doesn't happen with other USB accessories inserted into the same ports. And it happens in multiple ports with the bad keyboards. So it is definitely either a keyboard issue, or a driver/software issue.

This is getting very frustrating. I was set to take it to the store I bought it for warranty repair or replacement, as Microsoft suggested on another issue I had but based on what I've learned, it doesn't seem like this will fix things anyway. If any other company would get their act together and make a split keyboard that had the slightly larger middle keys, I would switch in a heartbeat as clearly the wired version of this is nowhere near as reliable as the wireless which gave me no troubles for close to 10 years, compared to this one which has been giving me trouble for at least the last 6 months of its 18 month life. And no...the idiotic Sculpt keyboard is NOT an option. IT is a huge step down from what was an EXTREMELY popular wireless keyboard (one of the few things Microsoft has gotten right in the last 10-12 years.) that should never have been retired.

    :)
