Windows 10: My MSI laptop does not let me install AHCI drivers so I can convert my disk to AHCI while...

I'm trying to prepare my system so it can dual boot Windows and Linux. Linux is not compatible with Intel's RAID file system, so I'm trying to convert the system to AHCI. Unfortunately, when I open BIOS to change the system to AHCI, once I try to reboot and open Windows, the system is unable to locate the disk and understand it. This is because Windows cannot understand AHCI. I read online 2 ways to fix this. Number 1 is installing drivers for AHCI before you switch the mode from RAID to AHCI, but the amount of drivers online that are all entirely unlabeled as to their purpose, and my computer

Why does the Microsoft Standard AHCI driver out-perform Intel's RST AHCI driver?

Case scenario;

Fresh install of Windows 10 x64 on MSI Z370M gaming pro AC with I5 9600k and Samsung Pro 860 Evo 1TB SSD. Running Samsung Magician benchmarks give me Sequential Read/Write and Random Read/Write results with standard drivers installed during setup. After
updating AHCI driver with Intel's, Sequential goes up by ONE point but, Random drops by 10,000 IOPS. Reverted driver back to Microsoft's and sure enough, benchmark results in the random Read/Write results jumping back up the same 10,000 that were lost. Is
there something wrong with Intel's latest AHCI driver?

I understand your concern and will guide you in the right direction.

Windows uses AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) by default, but it may not be enabled if your BIOS wasn't set properly during installation of the operating system.

Follow the steps below to check if ACHI is enabled properly.

a. Press Windows + X.

b. Select Device manager.

c. Click the arrow next to "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers" to display the list of controller drivers currently used by your system.

d. Check for an entry that contains the acronym "AHCI." If an entry exists, and there is no yellow exclamation mark or red "X" over it, then AHCI mode is properly enabled. If
you don't see an "AHCI" entry, or the only entry contains a red or yellow mark, then there's a problem and AHCI mode is not properly enabled.

SATA Installation Problems with AHCI and Vista

well you could always install in IDE mode, and then convert to AHCI later. Problem is with your issues with it saying its the wrong AHCI driver, i dont think it would work.
