I just bought a new laptop with a 512GB SSD drive and found that it has a C drive with a capacity of 120GB and then a D drive partition with 340GB capacity. I noticed that there are system-reserved files on this D drive with system reserved files on 90MB, I want to merge this drive with my C drive, and thought that I could reduce the size of the D drive partition could only reduce to 3.05GB and merge the unallocated space with my C drive, but can't seem to do so. Any help would be appreciated. TIA

    :)

Recovery Partition vs System Reserved Partition

Thanks for all the info guys.

Both original & target SSD's are listed as MBR as opposed to UEFI. I may have created a partition unknowingly in getting the original/new unformatted drive recognized, but I don't recall taking any steps that Windows did not step me through.

Not that an upgrade to WIN 10 Pro is contemplated, but I suspect that having no System Reserved partition will not allow that to happen, after seeing how the original WIN 10 upgrade created a problem for some WIN 7 users that had a smaller 100mb vs 500mb System Reserved partition.

  3. How to completely reformat a disk with reserved partitions

I upgraded to win 10 on a new SSD, everything is working fine and I have copied the data I need from the old disk (its now drive EMy new laptop had a partition D drive which was 342GB and has system reserved files on it,... :)

E: has a D: partition - the old system reserved, no longer needed. E: also has a recovery partition which has no label.

I want to remove the 2 reserved partitions and combine them back into E: - and then reformat E:

Is there a simple list of steps to do this please?

    Thanks

System Reserved partition is on my data drive

I'm trying to do a disk image backup of the C: drive. However, since my system reserved partition is on my data drive (DMy new laptop had a partition D drive which was 342GB and has system reserved files on it,... :) it backs up my entire 1TB data drive. I know that generally the system reserved partition is a separate partition of less than
200MB, but somehow on my system my system reserved partition is my data partition. What is the safest way to create the system reserved partition on my C: drive and remove the system and active attributes from my D: drive. I'm attaching a screenshot of my
    disk management info.
