Windows 10: My NTUSER.DAT filed is damaged

My NTUSER.dat file is damaged which is causing issues when installing Win11 24H2, I get the 0x8007002f error code which is the same as everyone else, however one of the VM's on here said that the Hive Registry file NTUSER.DAT is damaged, how does one go about fixing this without doing a whole complete format and rebuild of my laptop?I have done the xcopy thing of copying the default file over, access is denied, the only thing I don't have on my laptop is the default user, all I have is TEMP, which has the NTUSER.DAT in it.Original complaint here

Hi,

As well as the 3 ntuser files listed, there are 5 ntuser.dat(*****).regtrans-ms files and 2 ntuser,dat(*****).blf files.

Do I copy those as well or unselect them like the 3 you listed?

need some help opening a .dat file.....

I don't know if will help, but I noticed in a thread someone (@chefsuccess.com) mentioned, that, you need to use the restore to import the file.

I don't use the software, so, I have no idea on the steps/procedure.

Associate .dat files to NotePad

Hi Rick

Right click a dat file, choose 'Open With' - Choose Another App

Important - Check the box marked 'Always use this app to open dat . . .'

If Notepad is not in the list, scroll to the bottom and click 'More Apps'

Again if Notepad is not in the list, at the bottom, click 'Look for another app on this PC', then navigate to find the Notepad application in C:\Windows\System32
