Windows 10: My OneDrive icon on the taskbar still has a red x though I removed the folders in question

Hello,I asked this question a few days ago and thought it had been resolved, but I'm still having issues. I did a factory restore on my Windows 11 laptop and everything was fine until I downloaded a DVD with PDF instructions from a digital camera. Then the following appeared along with a red X on the OneDrive cloud icon on the taskbar:I then removed all those PDF files from OneDrive and created a new folder on my C drive, yet the red X and that warning/explanation are still there. I had the same camera files in OneDrive before the factory restore and there wasn't a problem. I did rename my lap

Rebuilding the icon cache was the first thing I tried. Actually, I did that before starting this thread. I also tried SFC /scannow and DISM — both TNA. Even Icaros didn't fix it.

As to the OneDrive suggestion, unfortunately it made things worse.

First I unlinked my PC from OneDrive. Before I restarted the system I checked the desktop and found that the icons changed and showed the apps and folder icons with some sort of system default overlay.

Then I restarted the system and the issue was still there.

But now I have the executables shortcuts icons shown on the desktop as a blank icon. The exception is the IrfanView shortcut icon, which, like the other icons, shows a sort of blank overlay (it seems to be related to the arrow overlay). PDF files and internet shortcuts also show that. Images and files shortcuts icons (like TXT) are normal.

This new thing can be seen elsewhere on the system, but with some details. When Explorer is set to show Small icons, List, and Details, those new issues appear. The other viewing options show the icons normally.

Well, I guess the problem is with icons only, not related to HDDs and stuff.

 

Red X symbol in front of Documents folder

That red X, if it is in the bottom left corner of the Documents Icon, means OneDrive has not been successful in syncing that folder, there may be just one file in that folder which OneDrive cannot sync . .

The documents folder contains a lot of application data that is specific to each user. your best option is to have a folder inside the documents folder for all your files

Then in OneDrive Settings remove the documents folder form the list of synced items and add that folder winch contains only your files . . .

I am successfully using OneDrive on two Win10 machines. I am trying to use it on my Tablet (ASUS). The folders I set up and their content have a white cross 'X' in a red circle icon. I can open the documents and pictures but the option to get a OneDrive Link for sharing is greyed out and is not available. I tried deleting the folders and recreating them, same problem. Ay suggestions please? I don't want to use the sync feature, just the ability to copy/paste only the items I want to save on OneDrive. Thanks...Raj
