Windows 10: My pc cannot connect to my home wifi or my Ethernet says “NO DHCP server was found”....

HiI’m having trouble trying to connect my pc to my home network. This problem happened after my computer updated last night. I’ve tried to ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew. But it does not work. My ip addy is still saying 169.xxx.xxx.xxx. Ive also unplugged my router and my pc with 1 min in between and still no luck. I’ve also restarted the router, changed Ethernet cables. I’ve troubleshooted and everything is still the same. Help please this is urgent.

Windows can not process properly DHCP response with the same IP for wired and wireless connection

DHCP servers may return the same IP for both wired and wireless connection

This may be useful for laptops - I can connect with wire in the main room and wireless on the other.

But when I plug the ethernet cable to the laptop and turn off wifi, Windows still not able to obtain IP from DHCP server

I have found 2 workarounds:

1. Reboot (boring)

2. Open the window with network adapters and disable wifi adapter. In this case wired connection can obtain IP, and the connection to network restoring

I prefer not to do such extra steps as it is boring.

Microsoft, please release IP from wireless adapter if wifi turned off

 

Weird problem: Ethernet won't connect unless WiFi connects first.

Originally I was connecting to WiFi manually. I do have it set to connect to WiFi automatically right now (and Ethernet connected after only a few minutes when I turned it back on this morning).

I can tell you what the diagnosis connection tells me when I tried it before when it didn't say "network cable unplugged," but still wasn't connected. It said it couldn't find the DHCP server.

If you still want the troubleshooter info, I can try that later.

 

The DHCP Server service terminated without a valid clue

DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol): Every device on TCP/IP needs unique IP address to access the network. DHCP controls the allotment of IP addresses. However, if
you can access internet, DHCP should work fine. But if there is some issue with the internet, you can follow these steps and resolve the DHCP error.

I suggest you to follow the troubleshooting steps mentioned below:

1. Press Windows and
   R key together on your Keyboard.
   
2. Type Control and hit enter.
   
3. Click on Network and internet > click on Change adapter settings
   on the left pane.
   

4. Right click on the Ethernet connection you are using and select properties.


5. Select Internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPV4) and click on properties.


6. Check the following radio boxes:

• Obtain an IP address automatically
• Obtain DNS server address automatically

7. Now windows 10 will retrieve the IP address automatically.
