Windows 10: My PC died. I need to find out if I have an OEM license.

My PC died and I am building a new one. How can I find out if I have an OEM license without being able to access the PC and if I do not, how can I find out my product key or some kind of activation for the new PC?

Can I use windows 10 OEM on my other PC?

Nope. two things:

• OEM licenses cannot be transferred. Once the initial MB died, the license also dies.
• Retail licenses can be transferred. But in any case, one key cannot be used in 2 machines simultaneously. One key can be used only in one PC.

Not a problem reinstalling on Windows 10 OEM on the same machine.

OEM versions of Windows are identical to Full License Retail versions except for the following:

- OEM versions do not offer any free Microsoft direct support from Microsoft support personnel

- OEM licenses are tied to the very first computer you install and activate it on

- OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

- OEM versions cannot be used to directly upgrade from an older Windows operating system

Removing the OEM license

If the Laptop/Computer came with the Windows Operating System preinstalled (Dell, HP, Acer, etc) , that Product Key that came with the Laptop/Computer is for the preinstalled OEM License and is non-transferable.

The OEM License/Product Key (preinstalled Operating Systems on Dell, HP, etc machines) is tied to the first machine it is installed on and dies when that machine dies.

The above rule also applies to OEM System Builders Licenses.

Retail Operating System License, that you buy and install yourself, are allowed to be transferred to another machine.

But Retail Licenses can also only be installed on one machine at any particular time.
