Forgot/Incorrect Password trying to factory reset pc

Earlier today I tried restarting my PC due to it saying 100% disk space (Pc was slow) After restarting I was presented with “LogonUi.exe” error and my PC would be stuck in a black screen with only the cursor visible. After trying to get it to work, Instinctively, I decide to force shutdown with the power button. After waiting around 10 minutes and starting it up again, the pc starts up as normal with the option to start bios, etc. It then shows the menu where it lets me do factory reset, repair, etc. (This only happens every couple of startups) When I try to proceed with a factory reset, it asks for a password which I do not have and the only other options are “Forgot password” and a different one which I forgot. Both which do not help. Im wondering if theres any way I can get this password or can I do the factory reset without it. If I choose to continue to windows the message of “LogonUi” error reappears and the only displayed is the black screen as well as the cursor as said earlier.

then right click on Power button and select

How to factory reset Cisco 1700 Router

Hopefully I can help you here....its a very common thing to happen.


First, I take it you dont know the passwords for console access or telnet/ssh?

I will assume that these devices belong to you.

step 1. Plug a cisco console cable into a serial port on your pc
step 2. Plug other end into Cisco console port
step 3. Using hyperterm or putty or similar connect to the serial port
step 4. boot router, and make sure you clearly can see the output (this confirms you have good serial comms)
step 5. if this fails, adjust the comm port settings (9600, 8,1,n are the default)
step 6. now you have to do the only hard part...send the break command:

Go down the list and match your OS and SW and try the sequence suggested.

If this fails several times do what I do: Install putty (free) and then to send a break so you can get into rommom just hit "ctrl-a b".
