Preparing Automatic Repair - Stuck - Not loading Windows

After a recent update, and a disconnect suddenly, PC is stuck in "Preparing Automatic Repair". I rebooted several times including 3 times at on/off restart to try to get into Safe Mode. No success. Should my hard drive light be on while "Preparing Automatic
Repair" is in progress? And, how long automatic repair takes to complete? How can I get to safe mode to do at least attempt a recovery from last operating image? Appreciate some feedback. Thanks!

 

Preparing Automatic Repair

My son's Lenovo Ideapad 110-15ACL has been stuck on "Preparing Automatic Repair" for over a week now. I can't followed any steps listed for remedying it because the computer doesn't respond to any instructions, like holding F8 or even booting from a USB, at all. Has anyone ideas or it's time to discard this 5-year old laptop?

Hello John,

Good news! I got it fixed, I just left it on over night in the preparing automatic repair, it eventually went to diagnosing your pc. After a while on that screen I was then able to select an option to restart PC or try advanced options. I selected the other option and got into advanced options and done the step you mentioned by doing startup repair.

There was a big update due on windows so I am thinking the problem must have happened when I powered down manually pressing the button on my tower and this update must have been underway at the time causing the problem.

So for anyone else with this problem try giving the preparing automatic repair more time, it could take several hours. Leave it on overnight.
