My pc no longer has access to Microsoft online account, after adding local/child user to...

Here's the set up, I found an old laptop in a closet that I had forgot about, I decided to set it up with some educational games for my autistic son, it's not like I've lost anything if he destroys it. I get it out, and plug up the charger, wait about 5 minutes for it to charge, turn it on, and my Microsoft account is still set up, great, I go through settings, to Accounts, and set up a child account logging in as a local account. I then open Chrome and go to the Microsoft account online site, make sure the account is showing up. Then restart, to make sure the new account shows up on the log in screen, but do not log in.

I then grab my laptop, which I'm listed as Administrator, both my boys are showing up as Family Members but no log in on my pc. I click my bookmark for the Microsoft Account online website, and get a page to sign up for an account. I click on sign in to existing account or however it's worded. and sign in, and get a page to create a new Microsoft account even if it does show I'm already signed In. I have spent almost 2 hours trying to get signed in to my account. I click, "add device" it says sign in, I sign in, and it carries me back to the "Please sign in" page, over and over. Both the other pc's are able to access the webpage, and add/remove devices/users, but nothing brings my pc back so I can access the page. My email account is listed as administrator on all three pc's with both boys listed as child/local sign in. If I go in my account on each of the other two pc's, I have no problem accessing the website, its just my pc that won't access it.

I have tried using the other pc's to remove my device and re-adding it, but that doesn't give me access either. I have tried using the "account troubleshooter", but like all other Windows troubleshooters it was completely useless, I have never had one find an obvious problem. I don't know what else to try, without doing a reset, or reinstalling windows, but I shouldn't have to do that, just because I added a user to a different pc. There has to be something that will fix this problem. Yes the email is correct, yes the user name is correct, I did not change that on this pc, or the other pc, just added a child user. Any idea is welcomed, even those I've already tried.

    :)

Can a local user be changed to a child account?

    Windows 10 Home
    ver 1909

    Hello,

I'm trying to see if there's a way to change a local account (standard user) to a child account so it can be managed in the Microsoft Family?

I tried to follow the steps here https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...1-c8f8cca1d52f

but there's no option for "family and other users".

They do not have Microsoft accounts. Do I need to basically create a new child account at Windows setup?

    Any assistance appreciated.

Unable to convert Microsoft account to Local account

    Hi Luke,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I appreciate your efforts on this. I understand that you have converted a Local account to a Microsoft account and want to convert the Microsoft account back to Local account.

Since the Microsoft account is a Child account that is the reason, you are unable to convert the Microsoft account to a Local account. If you delete the Child account from the computer, it will remove the Child account permanently from the computer.
If you have access to any other account on the computer, you can create a new local account on the computer. Please refer the steps in the article

Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10
    .

To remove the Child account from the computer, please follow the steps mentioned below:

    1. Press Windows key + R, type
      control
      and click on OK.
    2. Select Large icons from the drop down for
      view by.
    3. Click on User Accounts.
    4. Click on Manager User account.
    5. Select the Child account and click on
      Delete account.
    6. If you have important files saved in the account, click on
Keep files to save the files, else click on Delete files.
    7. Click on Delete account to delete the account.

As you have mentioned, you have removed the Child account from the Family I suggest you to check if the child account still reflects under the Family. If the Child account reflects under the Family, please remove the child account from the Family using
the Adult account, restart the computer and check if you get the option to convert the Microsoft account as a Local account.

For more information on removing the child account from Family, you can refer the article

Remove members from your family group.

Please reply with the status of the issue, we will be glad to help you further.

    Regards,
