Screen turns black and it restarts. It happens like 1-2 times a day, sometimes i can play all day without crash. Crashes happens randomly, doesnt matter if i play or just browsing. There are some errors i got in event viewer: The AMDRyzenMasterDriverV22 service failed to start due to the following error: Cannot create a file when that file already exists. The shadow copies of volume D: were aborted because the shadow copy storage could&n

Pc will crash randomly to black screen with yellow dram light on

Occasionally my pc will crash to black screen and reboot after a few seconds. The dram light is a solid yellow. I check the qvl list and my ram isn’t on it but otherwise it runs fine and I did memtest86 and it ran fine on all 4 passes with no errors. Could it be my psu or something else? Try to get new ram? If there are any tests that I could try to run to figure this out it would be great. My bios and drivers are all up to date and I tried clearing the cmos too.

  3. Pc will crash randomly to black screen with yellow dram light on

    Hi, Adsauer3

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Through your description of the PC crashing to a black screen with a solid yellow DRAM light, we understand that your PC might be experiencing issues related to memory (RAM), but it could also be related to other components. Here are some steps and tests you can perform to troubleshoot and hopefully pinpoint the issue. These methods might not necessarily solve the problem but can help you narrow down the scope further:

    1. Compatibility and BIOS Settings
      • QVL (Qualified Vendor List): Even if your RAM isn't on the QVL, it can still work fine, but being off the list can sometimes lead to compatibility issues. The QVL is a list of memory kits that the motherboard manufacturer has tested and confirmed to work well with your motherboard.
      • BIOS Settings: Ensure your RAM is set to the correct speed, timings, and voltage as recommended by the manufacturer. Sometimes, if automatic settings (like XMP/DOCP profiles) are not fully compatible with your motherboard, it can cause instability.
    2. Memory Tests
      • Extended MemTest86: Running MemTest86 for four passes is a good start, but sometimes errors only show up after longer periods. Consider running it overnight or up to 8 times for a more thorough check.
      • Windows Memory Diagnostic: Another tool you can try is the built-in Windows Memory Diagnostic. Restart your computer and search for it in the start menu. It can be used as a quick check.
    3. Hardware Tests and Swaps
      • Use other software to test your other hardware: Since there's no official Microsoft software capable of testing hardware performance comprehensively, you're encouraged to search online for third-party software for testing.
      • Test Each RAM Stick Individually: If you have multiple RAM sticks, try running your computer with just one stick at a time. This can help identify if a specific stick is causing issues.
      • Swap Slots: Also, try swapping the RAM into different slots on your motherboard. Sometimes, the issue can be related to the motherboard slots themselves.
      • PSU Check: A failing PSU can cause various issues, including crashes. Testing with another PSU, if you have access to one, can rule this out.
      • Check for Overheating: Use third-party software to ensure your CPU and GPU temperatures are within normal ranges. Overheating can cause crashes.
    4. Software and Drivers
      • Driver Verification: Although you mentioned your drivers are up to date, consider checking through Device Manager to ensure drivers are correctly installed. Also, consider using Windows' built-in Driver Verifier tool to identify any driver-related issues.
      • Check Event Viewer: Look into the Windows Event Viewer for any critical errors or warnings that happen around the time of the crashes. To access it, open the Control Panel, select "System and Security," then click "Administrative Tools," where you'll find "Event Viewer." Navigate to "Windows Logs" on the left. Expand "Windows Logs" and click on "Applications" and "System" to view the error logs for these two sections respectively, which can be sent to us at for us to analyze.
    5. Consider New RAM If after all these tests and checks, you're still experiencing crashes, it might be worth trying new RAM that is on the QVL for your motherboard. Compatibility is less of a question with QVL-listed RAM, which could solve your issue if it indeed relates to memory.

    Sincerely

    Pc randomly restarts

Where are the results for the steps I asked you to post back, so I'd know what else to suggest.

Please go back to the top of the list and report back detailed results for each step.

This is a known issue with known fixes. If you will work with me interactively it will usually be resolved quickly. However This is an interactive process. I give steps to perform, you do each one and then report back results until something works, so I know what to suggest next. If you need help performing any step, just ask back. But please do not skip any steps. We often find out the skipped step is the fix.
