Windows 10: My PC shows I am connected to the internet, but almost nothing is working Ethernet

Issue started yesterday, out of nowhere. Google and Microsoft related websites load, Gmail, Microsoft Community, Outlook, but nothing else does. I get "This site can't be reached" or "Your connection is not private errors"So, I am connected via ethernet cable to the wall plug. This connection has been working well for some time now. This is a work laptop, I am on a work site, but as the internet is technically connected, the site IT department wont help me as I'm a contractor.Running Windows 11 Pro, 22H2I have connected via hotspot to my phone and have the same issue.I have turned it off and

Ethernet shows red X and does not appear in settings, but still works


Not sure why this is happening. I have working ethernet and am connected, it works fine. But the taskbar icon shows a red X over it, and the tooltip says "Not Connected - No connections are available". Looking in "Network & Internet", ethernet is not even listed there. And before anyone suggests wireless interference .. this PC does not have a wireless card or integrated wireless.

Are you using an Insider build? This is a known issue in one recent one (can't remember which one). I believe the latest preview build fixes it.

You may try the following steps on your laptop and check if it works.

1. Open ‘Settings’ and choose ‘Network and Internet’.
   
2. Click on ‘Ethernet’ and tap ‘Properties’ for the network connection.
   
3. Set it to ‘Private’ and turn on ‘Make this PC discoverable’.
   
4. Close settings when finished.
