Windows 10: My Portable HDD started changing drives and now "not" detected, how whould I be able to...

I use my external HDD as a permanent HDD to my PC, This worked for years, but for a few days it kept changing paths, so I had to change it every time, currently it is "not" detected, it now and then appears on my diskmanager, but does not want to be initialize, saying fatal device hardware, but on thing that I don't understand is, on the device manager, it says it is connected and it is healthy.Anyone know of a solution?

Portable HDD full but isn`t..

Hi Graham,

In most cases, this may already point to a hardware issue. We suggest doing the following to properly isolate this:

• Connect your portable HDD to a different port.
• Connect your portable HDD to a different PC.
• Connect other storage devices.

If you find that other storage devices work properly and your portable HDD still encounters an error with other computers, then this is already a hardware issue and you'll need to get in touch with the device manufacturer for assistance and troubleshooting.

Portable drive recognisition

I understand your concern that you are unable to connected the portable drive as it is not recognized after upgrade to Windows 10.

Please try the below and be informed us with the result:

• Have you tried to connect the drive to different ports and check?
• Are you able to see if the drive is being detected by the device or not?
• Have you connected this drive to any other computer and check?
• Have you tried to connect different drive to this device to different ports and check?

Also, Please try to install all the Windows Updates on Windows 10 and check.

Steps:

• Press Windows key from the keyboard, type Updates.
• Click on Check for updates.
• Under Microsoft Updates, click on Check for updates.
• Try to install all the pending updates.

Please do the above to detect the issue is with the device or driver and updates us the status of this issue, we will be happy to help you further.

 

Portable hard drive not detected

I've a Seagate Back-up plus 1 TB external portable hard disk. After the partitioning it is not detected in both 'My Computer' and Disk Management. However it is listed in 'Device Manager' and 'Devices and Printers'. Please help me in this regard to resolve
the issue.
