Split from this thread. I just realized something. My primary computer on my network has the name Cockpit-1 but it is listed on the network as DESKTOP-SHT4HUM. I have no idea where the network got this name. If I do this: Click on the Start button. · In the search box, type Computer. · Right click on This PC within the search results and select Properties, the Device name is Cockpit-1If I do this: Press Windows key + R to open Run. Input cmd and click OK, it also says Cockpit-1On the other had, if I right click on This PC, Properties, Details it says: Computer DESKTOP-SHT4HUM and that

Windows 10; Network Name

Thank you for the update and I apologize for the late response.

I suggest you to follow the steps and check if you are able to change the network name:

1. Press the
Windows + R keys and type
secpol.msc, and press Enter.

2. If prompted by
UAC, then click/tap on Yes.

3. In the left pane of Local Security Policy, click on
Network List Manager Policies.

4. In the right pane of
Network List Manager Policies, double click on your current network name.

5. In Network Properties, select
Name and type the name you prefer.

6. When finished, you can now close Local Security Policy.

7. Restart the computer.

Hi,

The Registry steps follower that resolved the issue.

But could you tell us why it appears to select a network status name based on your past Wi-Fi network connections, and then applies it to your wired Ethernet connection?

Computers Vanished From File Explorer But Network Still Works

I agree with @Try3. I have tried every suggested method to fix Windows networking suggested on these forums. All at best only worked for a short time. The only things that helped was:

1. Batch file I suggested in an earlier post
2. Creating shortcuts to computers on my home network

Note these two things are not fixes but workaround. However, at least they help and have never failed.

I have shortcuts set up for eight computers on my home network. I have created a folder on my desktop called My Network to hold the shortcuts. They have a mix of the following operating systems:

• Windows 10 - 4
• Windows 7 - 3
• Windows XP - 1
