Windows 10: My RAW external hard drive is freezing my computer when I try to fix it?

Hello, my computer is freezing whenever I connect it to my PC.With whatever I do, everything just freezes, even the explorer.exe as well. IT WOULDN'T STOP and I have tried using a different device, a laptop, it didn't work. The format of the external hard drive was a RAW format, and it would not let me fix my hard drive or anything.It is a Seagate 500GB SRD00F1.

External Hard Drive becomes RAW for no reason

Hello.

I have been trying to move the files form my internal hard drive to a external 4 TB West Drive Passport. While copying files (more than 20 Gb of data) the transfer freezes and the external drive becomes RAW. I have tryied formatting the disk and repeating the process but the same thing occurs again. I checked the disk with the WD application and it seems to be undamaged. Disk manager identifies the drive (D and 100% available. I would appreciate suggestions to identify the cause of the problem and decide if the hard drive can or can't be used.

Notes:
- I did not unpluged the hard drive while the files were being transfered.
- The computer did not go into any power safe mode.
- I did not touch the computer,. not the disk during the entire process.
- I managed to recover some files with recuva but the process is very slow.
- The external disk is brand new but has been stored form more than a year.

External hard drive can't open

External hard drive is listed in disc management as "raw". Is there a way to open or access it?

 

Computer freezes and Explorer doen't respond when I plug an external Hard drive

The issue is possibly caused by corrupted data or bad sectors on your external hard drive or could be a sign of a failing hard drive.

To better assist you with your concern, I'd like to know the following:

• Confirm which build is currently installed on your device. To check, follow the steps below:

1. Press Windows key + R, then type in winver.
2. Click OK.

• Have you tried plugging your external hard drive to a different USB port? Also, check if you can access the drive by plugging it to a different computer.
• What is the make and model of your computer?

Meanwhile, I'd suggest to repair the bad sectors on your external hard drive. Kindly refer to the steps below:

(Let's just assume that the drive letter for your external hard drive is E. If not, please do change it to the correct drive letter)

1. Plug in your external hard drive. Click on Start, search for
Command Prompt, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.

2. Type in the following command below and press Enter after each command:

Chkdsk /f E:

Chkdsk /r E:

3. Reboot your computer after the scan is completed.
