Windows 10: My screen on microsoft got locked and I was told to call 866-907-1166 and i called them....

I called a number my microsoft said to call because of a system lock of something like that should I have called them?

Microsoft Defender locked my screen on my laptop and told me to call Microsoft support at this number — 866-284-4159.. I called the number and they helped me unlock my laptop but then wanted me to access the Microsoft server so the process could be completed. I wasn’t comfortable with that so I hung up. Did I get “almost” scammed?

Yes. You were almost scammed. If you did not allow remote connection to your computer, you are safe. The browser was "locked" by a JavaScript loop. There was no malware installed.

microsoft Edge Critical Error! screen poped up told to call 866 393 7989

Microsoft Edge Critical Error screen (red in color. wanting my user name and password, gave the tel number 866 393 7989. called and they would not say they were Microsoft only another company to fix issue. meantime I can't do to much.
