Windows 10: My search is not functioning

Good day.


On a permanent basis I usually use my computer by tapping the windows button on the keyboard and then typing what I need. The mouse can also navigate to whatever I need but mostly I don't enjoy using a mouse to navigate windows.


Recently, my windows search has stopped working.

When I tap the windows button, the start menu takes about 1.5 seconds to appear. This is a frustration already but what is worse is my search does not work at all. When I tap the search icon, nothing happens. I have tried pressing windows+c to start cortana. Nothing happened. I tried restarting. Nope. I tried to run searchUI.exe to no avail. I suspected perhaps a virus, I ran both windows defender scanner and Malwarebytes. My system is clean. I ran SFC scan. No problems has been reported.


Does anybody know what else I could do? What exactly runs cortana? Maybe I can run it using Windows+R

Search function in Win10

Hi, thanks for the suggestion, but as I stated in my previous message, I whitnessed this behaviour on various machines. Can you confirm that the search function works fine on your PC when repeating the same steps I described?

 

Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region


I got these suggestions from the Microsoft Community forum.No. 1 worked for me:

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.
We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
3. Select add someone else on this PC.
4. Enter a user name and hit next.
5. Click on Finish.
6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.

Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.

• Click the Start button.
• Type Indexing Options.
• Select Indexing Options.
• Click Advanced. Click Yes, if prompted or enter the administrative password.
• Go to Index Settings tab.
• Click Rebuild.
• Wait for the process to finish.

The process may take a while to finish depending on your PC.
