Windows 10: my 'snipping tool' has stopped working in the record mode. it still works in the snip mode.

record mode used to work and I liked that feature. now I get this message...can you help? thanks

Snipping tool not working

I'm trying to use the Snipping Tool (Windows+Shift+S) but when it opens up to let me select which part of the screen to select, it blanks out the entire screen so that there is nothing to select. I'm not sure when this stopped working since I do not use it very often. I'm using:

• Edition Windows 11 Pro
  
• Version 21H2
  
• Installed on ‎11/‎6/‎2021
  
• OS build 22000.613
  
• Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22000.613.0
  
• The Snipping Tool shows version 11.2201.12.0
  

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Snipping Tool Mode

I want to use snipping tool to capture a portion of the screen. I understand there should be "mode" for selection but it's not on my version.

How ever large or small I need the capture to be, the snipping tool gives me a full screen capture. Is there anyone have a solution for this? I prefer the snipping tool to Paint at the moment but if I can't get this resolve, I will need to use Paint instead
which is not as convenient as Snipping Tool for my purpose of use.
