Windows 10: My Sony TV is unable to be set as the default in SOUND DEVICES on my W10 Dell Laptop

Via SETTINGS>SYSTEMS>DISPLAY and SOUND, I select SOUND CONTROL; PANEL to see under PLAYBACK a list of my connected devices.My issue? IF I'm able to get/find the TV in the list of playback devices, it's without a green TICK, but a red down pointing arrow. IF I'm able to get the TV WITH a green tick, I can't set it as the DEFAULT device, and lose the connection the next day I fire it up HOWEVER I have found a work around...

I DISCONNECT the HDMI lead from the Laptop B4 I fire up, and (with the Sony TV on, with its HDMI line-in selected as LAPTOP, obviously with the HDMI lead still connected) I RE-connect the HDMI to the Laptop, and HEY PRESTO, not only is the Sony TV now in the list of playback devices, it has a GREEN TICK, AND AUDIO WORKS...BUT I STILL can't set it as "Default", as default is greyed-out and will have to go through the DISconnect/REconnect process again and again.

BTW

If I were to take my other Dell i3531 (as I did) that was connected to this Sony TV, AND any previous/subsequent set via HDMI, it connects both video/audio without issue.

BOTTOM LINE

I have a way of getting what I want, but how do I get this machine to accept the current (preferred "Audio Device" as the default.

You know Greg, I find it curious that my TV (as a "sound" device) is the ONLY device in the list that has the option to "set as default" greyed out, but I have a cunning plan.

In the morning, B4 I boot-up, I'm going to unplug the HDMI from the Laptop, and simply reconnect a few seconds later.

Watch this space.

TBH I tend to glaze over when confronted with multiple "to do's" but this might narrow it down for you...

It IS currently working as it should.

When I say it is currently working, I had it working first thing, but put the Laptop to sleep for an hour or so, and when it was woken, it had defaulted to the Laptops (good) speakers, with NO sign of the TV as a device, yet it (the Laptop) was on the TV visually, and perfectly set-out....until I simply UNplugged the HDMI from the back of the Laptop, and put it back in and BOOM sound back on the TV, and.....

Under Settings>Sound, and under "Choose your output device", I have

Sony TV-1 (NVIDIA High Definition Audio)

The TV IS also showing up in the "Sound" panel (under playback), with a green tick and the volume indicator jumping around (up & down) with the music BUT if I click on it (the section goes blue) set default is greyed-out, however if I were to select either of the other 2?

The option to set default is now restored.
