My system does not have any Speaker Configuration settings for surround sound, and therefore I cannot run anything other than Stereo from my media PC. I have an ASUS TUF Gaming Z690 Plus WiFi D4 with an Intel i5-12600K that feeds via the Optical out port to a Yamaha HTR5490 receiver with a full 5.1 sound system. I am running Windows 11 22H2 Build 22621.1555. The audio driver is Realtek v 6.0.9244.1 latest version from ASUS site which I have reinstalled a number of times with no difference. When I go to the Sound, Playback settings and choose the Realtek Digital Output device, I can

  2. Surround sound configure only has stereo

Hi, my name is Kelly, and I'm an independent consultant and I'm here to help.

To configure surround sound on your computer, you need to ensure that your sound card supports 5.1 surround sound and that the necessary drivers are installed. You also need to make sure that your speakers are properly connected to your sound card.

Once you have confirmed that your hardware supports 5.1 surround sound, you can follow these steps to configure it:

Right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Spatial sound (Off)".

In the Spatial sound settings, select "Windows Sonic for Headphones" or "Dolby Atmos for Headphones" if you have it.

Open the Control Panel and click on "Sound".

Select your speakers in the list of playback devices and click on "Configure".

Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your speakers for 5.1 surround sound. Make sure to select the appropriate configuration for your setup.

If 5.1 surround sound is not available in the speaker configuration options, it may be because your sound card or drivers do not support it. You can try updating your sound card drivers or checking for any available firmware updates for your speakers.

It's also worth noting that not all content is recorded in 5.1 surround sound, so you may not always hear all channels when playing certain media.

    Good surround sound headset

I know you say you're not that guy, but stepping into the $250+ range really brings a change in build quality that might have you never having to buy another set. Otherwise, getting 6 speakers with decent sound in a headset is hard, and that's what you are asking for, and I have no suggestions, but just a bump up the list. *Stick Out Tongue My system does not have any Speaker Configuration settings for surround sound, although the... :p

5.1 surround sound not working :/

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

In order to output 5.1 audio from your PC, the sound card of your computer should have the support for it. Not all soundcards can output 5.1 surround signal. However, you can try the following steps and see if it works.

    • Right click on the Volume icon (bottom right corner) and select
Sounds to open the sound Properties window.
    • Go to the Playback tab and right click on your 5.1 speakers and select Set as Default.
    • Right click on the speaker again and select Configure.
    • In the speaker setup window, select 5.1 surround and click Next.
    • Check all the checkboxes under optional speakers and click Next.
    • Check the checkboxes under Select full-range speakers if applicable and click Next.
    • Click the Finish button once the configuration completes and see if you get the desired output audio signal.
