My system keeps resetting my second SSD drive, making it unable to read/write for the rest...

Hello community, I am Zuke and I have an issue I need help with.I have a 2TB SSD as a bulk drive for applications, and when it is under stress I noticed it takes an absurdly long time to read assets during certain times, and everything regarding reading information on the drive just hangs.Task manager performance during this state show that specific drive named D: gets 100% disc usage, even though the read/write speed is ~0.1mb I have read online that this might have been an issue with Message Signaled Interrupts mode MSI, where "SSDs would be unable to complete input/output I/O requests

Z Book BSOD with Second SSD Drive

    Hi all

I have an issue with an HP Z Book. It is a new Generation 6 device and came with a pre-installed second SSD drive.

All worked fine until I tried to put our corporate image onto the primary OS SSD.

Firstly, the new OS installed onto the secondary SSD rather than the primary.

So I disconnected/removed the secondary, recreated the partition on the primary and loaded our stock OS.

The machine now works absolutely fine, as long as I do not try to re-introduce the second SSD drive.

If I reinstall this, the machine boots up OK for a second or two and then BSOD's.

Can anyone suggest the reason for this issue - the BSOD message reported a kernel error.

Any ideas on steps to take to resolve this?

    Thanks

    Phil

understanding reading and writing on SSD

Copying to another drive just reads from the SSD, and reading does not wear out an SSD.

Copying files to it, renaming files (that write to the directory entry), the system writing logfiles/registry/swapfiles etc. - basically any write operation will wear the SSD a little bit.

Is this your first experience with an SSD? I was concerned about lifespan when I got my first one, but having used it for two years now I have stopped worrying - I calculate it's going to outlive me *Biggrin

Slow HDD read and write speeds

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We will require a few more information from you to help you further with the issue. Please reply with the following details:

    • In which device are you facing this issue?
    • Are you using an external HDD or internal HDD?
    • Are you getting the read and write speed issue on any particular application?

However, you can Disk Defragment on your computer to optimize the drive. To run Disk Defragment please follow the steps from the article

    Defragment your Windows 10 PC
    .

Alternatively, you can check for the read and write speed of the HDD in task manager. Please follow the steps mentioned below to check the read and write speed of the hard drive:

    1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc key together on the keyboard.
    2. Click on Performance tab.
    3. Click on Disk 0.
    4. You will find the Read speed and
      Write speed
at the bottom of the window.

    Hope it helps.

Please reply with the status of the issue, we will be glad to help you further.
