Windows 10: My touch screen stopped working

I have a dell xps13 9310 laptop with touch screen that came with windows 10 pro. It worked until about a week ago. Spoke with the VERY USELESS Dell Premium Support Plus folks and they were unable to resolve anything. We did see that under device manager the HID touchscreen driver is not listed. Dell said there was no way to get that driver other than either reinstalling windows 10 by doing an OS recovery or by, preferably, upgrading to Windows 11 and that would fix the issue. So I upgraded to windows 11 and still the touch screen does not function. I am at a loss and any help would be s

Touch screen not working

Were you able to see if your driver is up to date?

We suggest to update the touch screen driver and check for resolution.

Follow the steps provided:

• Press Windows key and X on your desktop and click on Device Manager.
• Expand Human Interface Devices.
• Locate the Touch screen driver.
• Right-click on the driver icon and click on Update Driver Software.
• Click on Search automatically for the updated driver software.
• Follow the onscreen instructions to update the touch screen driver.

 

Touch screen stops working, Windows 10

It's gone again!! I was using an app with the touchscreen, when I saw the on screen symbol in the task bar flicker, it then disappeared and the touch screen stopped working.

Step one now tells me that it is applying a fix, then comes up with the message - Unknown usb device (device descriptor failed) is not working properly. Your pc must be restarted. - Restarted and went back and ran troubleshooter again, getting exactly the
same result and message.

Step 2 - The touch screen driver has now vanished from the list! (last week when the touchscreen wasn't working I tried to find the driver and couldn't - perhaps this is why!)

I appreciate the efforts taken by you in resolving the issue. I understand that Touch screen is not working for your HP All-in-one touch screen. I’ll certainly assist you with the issue.



However, please let us know:

• Are you aware of any changes made to the computer prior to this issue?
  

• What is the model of your HP All-in-one computer?
• Which build version of Windows 10 is installed on the computer? Refer
  Which version of Windows operating system am I running?

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the HP article
HP PCs - Troubleshooting Touch Screen Issues (Windows 10, 8) and see if that helps.
