Windows 10: My Touchpad, Right & Left Keys Don't work properly, "NO", "Highlight & Copy" or "Drag & Drop

To Whom it May Concern; For several weeks now, the Synaptics SMBus Touchpad built into my HP Note Book 15", Bw011DLaptop has LOST several of it's critical Functions, including "Proper Right & Left Key assignment functions", "Highlight & Copy" & "Drag & Drop" options as well. My Operating system is;Windows 10 Pro x64 Edition Version 21H1 Installed on ‎5/‎14/‎2020 OS build 19043.2130 Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3030.0 It was directly purchased from Microsoft & "NOT" modified by HP. Drag & Drop does not work properly

Ever since the last batch of Windows 10 updates I am having considerable difficulty performing my work tasks because the "drag & drop" facility that I have used for years no longer works properly.

• Previously I could drag items from one folder to another by simply left clicking, holding and then dragging the object to the new location and releasing. Now when I left click and hold then drag the object stays in place and does not move. Sometimes holding
  down the Alt key AND then performing the drag process will work, but often nothing happens.
• For years I have been able to highlight sections of text, right click then select copy and then paste elsewhere. Now, this process is very flaky and sometimes the the system just freezes and I must reboot.
• I use two screens to allow me to move objects to one side. Now the process hardly ever works and sometimes objects just disappear and I must then conduct a comprehensive search to discover where they have gone.

All of these issues are actually fundamental to everyones working environment and the failure to function as required is destroying the productivity of most office workers. If Microsoft does NOT fix this issue soon then I sense that manyn users shall have
to abandon Windows 10 completely because it is simply not fit for purpose.

Does anyone have a fix for this annoying issue?

 

Drag and Drop

Hi Charles,

the steps you suggested didn't work for me but, when pressing the escape key it somehow expanded the drive and by using drag and drop to the single file in the list worked.

In the past I could drag and drop multiple folders onto the drive on the network computer(s). Doing it on individual folders will take far too long and time consuming and is not an option.

Microsoft should be able to identify what is blocking it and issue a fix.

My machine is multi boot so tomorrow I will try with Windows 7.

When using "Drag and Drop":

• "Alt + left mouse button" to create a Link/Shortcut
• "Ctrl + left mouse button" to Copy the file
• "Shift + left mouse button" to Move the file
