Windows 10: My USB Bluetooth adapter not working / windows 11 not recognizing it

So just yesterday I bought a new pc and I was getting everything set up and when I went to pair my controller to my pc it wouldnt and I found out that bluetooth wasnt working even thought my bluetooth adapter is plugged in. I have my old pc still and it works fine on my old pc but not my new one. And when I plug it in it still makes the noise that lets the user know a usb device was plugged in. Please help

Bluetooth USB Adapter Not Recognizing Devices

Hi Nate,

The issue you're experiencing might be due to a variety of reasons. It can be a driver issue or corrupted system files.

That being said, please provide the answers to the following for us to be able to learn more about your concern:

• Is your Windows 10 updated?
  
• Have you tried reinstalling your Bluetooth driver?
  
• When did the issue start? What were the changes made before the issue started?
  
• Did your Bluetooth USB adapter recognize the same devices before?

If you haven't tried reinstalling your Bluetooth driver, here's how:

• Right-click Start, then select Device Manager.
  
• Right-click the driver under Bluetooth, then select
  Uninstall.
  
• Restart your laptop to automatically reinstall the drivers. Make sure that you update the driver after re-installation.

In the meantime, you can run the Hardware and Devices, and the Network Adapter Troubleshooters to find and repair problems with your devices, hardware, wireless, and other network adapters.

• Right-click the Start icon, then select Control Panel.
  
• Choose the Large icons option from the View by drop down list found on the upper-right part of the Control Panel window.
  
• Locate then select Troubleshooting.
  
• Click View all from the left pane.
  
• Locate and click Hardware and Devices/Network Adapter to run the troubleshooter then follow the next steps.
  

To make sure that you're not experiencing an account specific issue, kindly
create another administrator account and observe if the
issue will still be present.

Bluetooth USB adapter recommendation

Thanks Denis for your input...I remembered I had another Bluetooth USB Adapter so I tried that. That adapter worked perfectly with the controller. I put the original adapter back in. It worked a lot better than yesterday but not as good as the other Bluetooth USB Adapter. I then saw your post.

The computer is almost 5 years old now. I try to check the Device Manager every month or two. I can't even remember the last time I saw a problem there. However, you were right. There was a error there. The error was something like "USB Device not recognized". I found the solution was to first figure out what was causing the error. I then remembered I had bought a new Logitech C920s Pro webcam a couple months ago. I unplugged it and plugged it back in. The error in the Device Manager was now gone.

I am still not 100% sure if the problem is completely fixed. I will have to watch things for a few more weeks to make sure.

 

USB 5.0 Bluetooth Adapter Not Working

I'm having trouble with a Bluetooth long range adapter. When I plug it in I get the following error in Device Manager:

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

The requested operation was unsuccessful.

In order to get it to work I have to uninstall my onboard Bluetooth adapter. Likewise, if I plug in the USB adapter before booting the computer it works but the onboard adapter shows the same warning and error (little yellow exclamation triangle) and it won't work. I have to unplug or uninstall the USB adapter and reinstall the onboard adapter. So essentially Windows 11 is treating the USB device like new hardware. I've tried all the drivers including a Realtek one for Windows 11 with no success. I also tried changing the Bluetooth services to "Automatic" within the Services Ap. I believe this is related to Windows 11 because ever since "upgrading" to Windows 11 I've had issues with Bluetooth. When my headphones connect sometimes they show "Connected" and no sound comes out, sometimes they show "Connected music" or "Connected audio, music". This is a separate problem and happens regardless of which Bluetooth adapter is working at the time.

I can't find any information specific to this problem online. It's not a matter of Bluetooth not working, it's really a matter of "Windows choosing one adapter while ignoring the other and not being able to switch between them without having to reinstall them in Device Manager". I've never had a USB device do this before.

Are there any solutions?
