    Hi,I know that using windows encryption EFS can be hazardous if not used with care but I’ve been inadvertently dragged into the world of encryption and need some help please.Let me explain … I decided to declutter my pc by reinstalling windows 10. Before I did this I moved all my personal files pics, videos, docs etc to a NTFS formatted external drive.After the windows reinstall I’m trying to move all my backed up files back onto my pc. All files copied back successfully from the external drive except for video files in the videos folder, giving the error message “ you require permission f

    Hi Iman,

    Error message 0x80071771 means that you need to restore the file encryption key in order for you to decrypt the encrypted files. On the other hand, you can still try these steps and see if it will work:

    • Right-click the file or folder that you want to decrypt.
    • Click File ownership and click Personal.

    Windows XP file encryption

    My suggestion to you is to look into what kind of encryption the program used, and look for a way to break that type of encryption. Sorry I can't say a specific program for sure.
