My Volume Down function accelerates as I press it

On two separate laptops running Windows 10, I have had an identical issue. It wasn't something that started after a while, 100% of the time on brand new laptops, this issue occurred and never stopped.

When controlling the volume to turn it up using the keyboard volume keys, it always goes up by 2. If it's at 0 and I press it 5 times, it's a 10. If I press it 25 times, it's at 50. How fast I press the up key makes no difference, it always goes up by 2.

But when I'm pressing the down key, the same isn't true. If I press it 1-6 times, it drop 2-12 volume units. But if I am pressing quickly, after the 6th press it starts to drop by more than 2. It starts dropping by 5, then by 10 with each press of the button. If the volume is at 100, it takes about 20 presses to drop it to 0, instead of 50 that it takes going up. This makes it very annoyingly hard to lower the volume correctly.

All drivers are up to date, and the drivers being updated or not has never changed this outcome.

I want to know how I can disable this acceleration of the volume down function.

    :)

    Volume adjustment acceleration

    Hi Ben,

We need to ask you the following questions so we can help you with your concern:

    • Are you using a Microsoft Keyboard?
    • When did the issue started to happen?
    • Is this a new keyboard?
    • Aside from the hotkey to adjust the volume, have you experienced any issues with other hotkey functionality?
    • Was it working properly before?
    • Have you made sure that your computer is up to date?
    • Have you changed any settings on your computer?
    • What other troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

We will be waiting for your response.

  4. My Volume Down function accelerates as I press it

No effect upon pressing <fn> and a function key

I have an ASUS laptop, K52JC, it used to perform certain function when combination of <fn> key and a function key are pressed simultaneously. For example -

    • Pressing <fn> and <F10> simultaneously will mute the sound
    • Pressing <fn> and <F11> simultaneously will decrease the volume
    • Pressing <fn> and <F12> simultaneously will increase the volume, and so forth

I have its Windows 10 re-installed recently. Everything works fine after the installation, except when combination of <fn> key and a function key are pressed simultaneously, no effect seems to be generated, as the computer does not respond accordingly.

Please advise how to resolve the above problem.
