Windows 10: My wife cannot login. We have separate accounts. She cannot correct or renew her password.

Microsoft says there is a problem with her pin, but won't let her reset it. She has forgotten her password, and it will not let her reset that. She is totally stuck. How can she reset anything?* Moved from Community Center

Hello.

My wife and I share a laptop when we are out of town. We have separate accounts so that they contain the same information and files that we have on our separate computers at home. We do not like to have to login with a password every time that we turn on
the computer. When we turn on the computer ,it shows my account and 2 accounts for my wife. How can we eliminate this account login? I have tried windows + R to get to "netplwiz" and followed the suggested steps and we still have my account and 2 accounts
for my wife.

I hope someone can give me direction to eliminate the frustrating login.

Microsoft account doesn't accept reset correct password

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.



We understand the difficulties you are facing while login to the PC using your Microsoft account.



In this scenario, we would suggest you to perform these steps and check if you are able to sign with the correct login credential in Safe mode. Also check if you are connected the PC to the internet, preferably through Ethernet cable.

1. At the login screen click on the power symbol.
   
2. Hold SHIFT key in the keyboard and click Restart.
   
3. After restarting your system, select the Troubleshoot option.
   
4. Select advanced options under
   Troubleshoot screen.
   
5. Click on Startup Settings
   
6. Click Restart and follow the onscreen steps to go to Safe Mode
   
7. Login with the correct password using the onscreen keyboard.

No login password craziness

Brink, that was the missing step. What threw me off was in netplwiz, where it asks about password for my MS account, the user name was not the same as my MS account name. Once I entered the password (twice) I can now login without entering a password. In fact the name that was listed was not the MS account name, but a folder name. The folder is the one that shows when you click on C:\Users.
