Windows 10: My Win 11 pro lost connection to the desktop, which of course no icons on the taskbar.

My Win 11 pro lost connection to the desktop, which of course men's no icons on the taskbar, And I can't access the desktop folder to replace it, I have checked a couple of times for viruses it seems OK. I have two items on the taskbar, Windows Start Button and The search button. Every thing seems too work by using the windows Start but of course is very awkward way of working. I have tried re-booting and trying to get windows to repair it's self but just says nothing wrong.Is there away round this or have I got to re-install Windows.

System Icons on taskbar

Are you referring to the clock system icon on the taskbar?

If so, I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below:

• 
  Click on the search bar on the taskbar.
  
• 
  Type system icons.
  
• 
  Under Turn System Icons ON or OFF, turn On the Clock and check with the issue.

• Just updated from Windows 10 Pro to Windows 11.
  
• The taskbar icons are TWICE the size of the taskbar icons in Windows 10
  
• Nothing in settings to reduce the size.
  
• Googled and apparently I'm not the only one not happy that the small taskbar icons in Windows 10 have been removed in Windows 11
  
• Is Microsoft going to reinstate the small taskbar icons?
  

If the small taskbar icons, as in Windows 10, aren't going to be reinstated - Can I roll back from Windows 11 to Windows 10 Pro (note Windows 10 PRO)?

I appreciate your interest in Windows 11. I understand that Taskbar icons are not working after upgrading to Windows 11. I’ll certainly assist you with the issue.



However, please let us know:

1. What happens when you click on an icon on the Taskbar?
   
2. Do you receive any error message/code?
   
3. Does this issue occur with all the icons?
   

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to try re-registering the taskbar and see if that works. Kindly follow the steps mentioned below.

1. Press Windows + X keys together and click on Windows PowerShell (Admin)
   
2. Now type in the following command and hit Enter: Get-AppXPackage -User ([System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity]::GetCurrent().Name) *ShellExperienceHost* | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
   
3. Restart the PC once the command is complete.
   

If the issue persists, you can try creating a new user account and then see if you are able to access the icons on the Taskbar.
