My win10 pro. XPS Document Writer and MS Print to PDF printer can not print 0 byte fileI tried to turn off ——> sfc scan——>turn on again. it did not work.I updated to win11,everything ok, but I come back to win10 . the error was still.

MS 10 Mail App - Print to XPS Document Writer or Microsoft to Print to PDF

When printing an email to either the XPS Document Writer or MS Print to PDF - unable to specify a location for the printed result. Continues to send document to Documents folder. Is there a fix for this. On the web Microsoft had indicated in instructions
that user would be asked to browse for location to deposit document. Assuming this is an oversight that requires a fix in 10?

 

Print to PDF files too large

Another observation to add.

When printing reports from our application using Win10's "MS Print to PDF", the resulting PDF file size is ~ 10x larger than expected.

If we instead print the same report from our application to the 'MS XPS Document Writer' the resulting OXPS file size is just a fraction (~1/20) of the PDF size.

Now if we open that OXPS file in the MS XPS Viewer and print it again using the 'MS Print to PDF' printer the resulting PDF is now ~12 time larger than expected.

These basic tests using the MS products clearly show the unusual large file size change in behavior when printing to PDF on Win10.

The feedback from our customers who have also encountered this change after updating to Win10 suggests they will delay updating their remaining seats to Win10 until this is resolved or a solution is provided.

 

Microsoft Print to PDF & XPS Writer not working

I do have Adobe Acrobat and can easily print to PDF.

I am using the XPS Writer for a special purpose: I receive account statements from various banks in digitally signed format, some of them even with a passcode. This makes it impossible for me to glue the statements together into a single PDF file. To work
around this problem I "print" the locked PDF file to XPS format and then import this file into the combined PDF file. Voila! No, it does not help to try to print the locked PDF file to the PDF format - Acrobat PDF Maker will not re-distill a locked document.

Perhaps some of the non-Adobe PDF printers are more forgiving and will let me "print" the locked file. I have not investigated this.

Apart from that - I have bought Windows and I want it to work. I would not drive around in a car with a flat tyre just because it would be too cumbersome to get it repaired ;-)

I hope this explains why I need the XPS Writer.
