Windows 10: My Windows 10 1809 Update Experience

Decided to update from 1803 to 1809.

I did my old Laptop 1st and will do my other Desktops later.

WU would not offer the update so I downloaded the ISO but it failed to update.

I then did a clean install and that worked.

This laptop started it's life on Windows 7 Core and has gone thru Window 8, 8.1, 10 Home and 10 Pro.

I was on W10 Home until a year ago and then used an old W7 Pro key to update to W10 Pro which was a simple task of just changing the key.

After my clean install I was again on W10 Home and activated. It must have read the Bios during install as it never asked. So I used the W7 Pro key and after a reboot which was a surprise and I was updated to W10 Enterprise which of course did not activate. I gave it another try with the W7 Pro key and in a flash I was on W10 Pro and activated.

All is well and almost finished my program installs and getting setup.

Desktops are next and hope they update as they have a lot more programs.

New install Windows 10 (issue solved)

It's good that you're not experiencing any issues. Unfortunately many folks are, a quick Google search will show the same info im offering the OP.

It's basically what I mentioned above, small issues here and there ,but nothing to end your day.. for the most part.

I know it's anecdotal, but for my experience 95% of the time it's perfectly fine. The issues I've run into wouldn't be enough for me to roll back , but they would be enough (had I not installed it yet) ,to avoid it for another couple weeks which is why I'm suggesting it to the OP

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
