    My windows 10 key has 20 characters but the activation screen asks for 25?


    I recently bought a new computer and I went to a store nearby to buy a windows 10 key. I used a usb to start up and when the windows activation screen showed up it asked me for a 25 character code. Problem is my code that i got from the tech store only has 20 characters. Is this key meant to be used somewhere else? I'm pretty bad with computers, please dont make fun of me. Thank you

    Having 20 character product key, but Windows setup asking 25 character product key

    My friend upgraded his Windows 8.1 machine to Windows 10. The upgrade was successful. It got activated too. Now somehow his machine got screwed and we are doing reinstall from clean Windows 10 bootable USB. I have noted down the product key that was shown
    after upgrade in Windows 10. I have noted down Product ID show in window that appear when I do Win+X > System. But that product id is of 20 characters separated into 4 groups, each containing 5 characters. However when I booted Windows 10 setup from USB,
    it was asking 25 character long product key. How can I get this product key?

    Or will it be auto activated once I install Windows 10 by skipping entering product key in the setup?

    Windows 10 will not activate Error code 0x803F7001

    Possibly there can be the problem with Microsoft activation Server, so your Windows 10 is not activated. In this scenario, you need to wait and verify if it is the issue from Microsoft’s side. But if you are getting error code 0x803f7001, you can also try these steps:

    1. Open Settings app. Then go to Update and security > Activation screen > Change product.
    2. Type your Windows edition product key and click Next.
    3. You’ll get We couldn’t activate Windows error message.
    4. Retry steps 1-3 then type your 25-characters unique product key.
    5. Wait for the process to complete, Windows 10 is activated.
