Windows 10: My windows 10 laptop is running slow after upgrade and my search bar goes black when I try...

Hi,I would like to know how can i fix my laptop's searchbbar whej i want ti type something because when i type something the bar goes black so i would like to konw who to fix it .the problem started to come yesterday night .I had upgrade ny pc for the windows 8.1 to windows 10 on the 30th January 2021 and its running very slow and when i start my pc it show's a black screen for 20 seconds and i dont know why are there so many problems in the widnows 10 i feel like i want to back back to windows 8.1 but i don't want to sk please help me the prombles are pc running very slow apps open up slow and when start oc it have black screen for 20 sconds and after 20 second it start up and the search bar is black when i type something .Please help me .

Windows 10 upgrade rant..

The free space shouldn't prevent you from upgrading to built 1607. I manually upgraded my own laptop which had only 9gigs free space left on the system drive.

I unzipped the Windows 10 Pro anniversary edition ISO on my D drive, and started the upgrade process from there. At one point the installer complained about not having enough free space on the main drive, i just had to point it to the D drive to proceed to the next step. Now the rollback installation is stored there and doesn't clog up the C drive anymore.

In your case you could insert a large sdcard to act as the required rollback drive, i'm pretty sure it would do the trick.

Oh and by the way, if you want to further compress your System files:

• do a search Command Prompt, right-click it, and select Run as administrator.
• Type COMPACT.EXE /CompactOS:always and hit Enter.

You'll will gain anything from 2 to 4 gigs free space after it's done.

 

Windows 10 search box goes black unless Explorer.exe is run as administrator

We have encountered an issue with two laptops where the search box goes black when you click in it. Also the available WIFI screen is black. If you kill "explorer.exe" and then run it again as administrator the issue goes away.

Has anyone encountered this same issue and know a fix for it? I see other discussions on the "black search box" issue but they were all related to Bing and Cortana, this one is different.

One laptop was version 1909 and the other 2004. I upgraded the 1909 to 2004 to see if the issue would go away but it did not.

 

Search Bar/Cortana

From the description, I understand that you are still receiving the pop up notifications, despite having disabled the search functionality in windows 10.

Steps to disable the Search Bar

• Right click on the task bar.
• Select the "Search" option.
• Select "Disable."

However, if the above steps don't work out, perform the below suggested steps and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Open a CMD window started as Administrator.

Repair corruption: Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth.

Run this command next: Sfc /scannow

Now run these two commands:

PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers |Where-Object {$_.InstallLocation -like "*SystemApps*"} | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
