Windows 10: My windows automatic update made my generic USB driver unable to work with certain devices....

I'm using generic USB driver 10.0.19041.4355.USB devices now stop working intermittently.

Unable to stop driver updates

Thanks Mussels, I will try that out. These are the options that I have for disabling driver updates in Advanced system settings:





I figured the group policy would kill it but it does not. The weird thing is, is that Live Update is not detecting any of my drivers either and I am not sure why.

EDIT: Today is a good day! I have figured out how to prevent 10 from automatically updating the realtek drivers. Unfortunately, it probably has canceled any drivers from being looked for, like usb drives, etc.

I found a setting in the group policy editor under Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Internet Communication Mananger -> Internet Communication settings called Turn off Windows Update Device driver searching. It also says that this setting has been replaced by Specify Driver Source Search order on newer versions but it still works. In the mean time, this could be set if you no you need to do some driver updating and reset after.





EDIT 2: I think a better option would be under Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Device Installation -> Device Installation Restrictions. There are two choices that you can prevent or allow windows to install certain classes of devices. Then another to prevent windows from any device installation not governed by other policies. So if I could figure out what classes of devices are valid they could be set here, for instance, usb drives. The only thing I am unsure about is if this prevents installation completely, or only windows automatically.

 

USB devices not working


Since my PC was updated to Windows 10 I have been having trouble with USB devices not working. It appears the drivers do not load or do not work. Example is my Saitek rudder pedals. They appear to be fully installed and appear in the device list but they do not work. I go into the device manager and update the driver to the exact same driver and it works.
I plug in my iPhone and it is recognized as an iPhone but appears in the Other Devices with a yellow exclamation. A check and it says there are no drivers. Manually find the drivers and update them and it is good until I pull it out. Next time I plug it in same thing.
Phantom 3 pro wont show the disk drive and have to load in a generic disk drive driver and all good. This list goes on.

I have found no suggestion on the net that help me so far.

Anyone else had this issue and have they solved it?

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43), this error is an indication of corrupted loaded drivers. By default, Device Manager only displays drivers of
connected devices, sometimes windows can get "confused" with the old drivers in the system. I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and let us know if it is fixed.

Method 1: Install Generic driver.

1. Connect one of the USB hubs.
2. Press Windows and
   R key together on your Keyboard.
3. Type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.
   
4. Right click on the Generic super speed USB hub.
   
5. Click on Update Driver.
6. Click on Browse my computer.
7. Select Browse, navigate to: C:\Windows\winsxs when it asks for the driver location.
   
8. Click on Install to install the Windows generic file.
   

Method 2: Uninstall and reinstall Driver.
