Defender Bubble says threat found, but none listed when I go into it.

I just had a Windows Defender pop up saying it found a threat. But when I clicked on it to go in and see, none were listed, whether quarantined or not.

Anyone else ever see this? Thoughts?

I will need to try these things you mentioned later but can provide what Defender says is the problem threat:

BrowserModifer:Win32/poltecl

(This same "high" threat is repeated about 100 times since yesterday) yet when I run the defender programs there is nothing. It is only from the pop-up.

Does it tell you where it’s located – need the complete file path?

Defender might be detecting this malware in the browser cache...that's why you probably need to reset the browsers.



And I think a copy to VirusTotal would help – that will let you see how many other programs identify it as malware.
If only MS detects a problem then it’s possibly a false detection but if other scanners identify it as malware then you’ll perhaps need to use a different program to remove it.
