Hi,I don't have a Hotmail account or Outlook or Xbox. For my Windows PC, my login is my Gmail address. I always get emails with security codes, so I logged in to set up 2 factor auth. I was surprised to find out there are about 40 unsuccessful sign-in attempts countries - Germany, Croatia, China every day for as long as I can see. Is this normal or should I be worried and take any action? On my Windows PC, I have set up face recognition log in and now i have 2 factor auth for the microsoft account. Are there anything else I can do?Regards,Shiyam

    :)

  2. email account hacked. please help

Also may I suggest you change email accounts to one of the following.....

    Gmail
    Outlook

The reason is they both use "Step two verification". This style of verification means even if a hacker gets your password they cannot log in to your account. You see every time someone try's to log in that hasn't been verified you will get a text or a phone call giving you a final code to log in. Its very easy and simple to setup also. The great thing is once you setup your Email application with a specific "application password" from that account you never have to log in again AND your account is protected from being logged in from foreign entities.

I like the new outlook personally however Gmail is also damn good. Gmail also has an IP tracker that allows you to see WHERE the account has been logged in from. Anyway let us know if you wanna change over and have any questions. We will be happy to help and welcome to TPU!

  3. Deleting Microsoft account

    Hi Gene,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand your concern. However, the prompt might be because as you have mentioned that you have not logged in to the account for long period and we would need some information regarding the issue.

    1. Could you please let us know where exactly you are getting the error message?
    2. Are you using Microsoft or local account to login to Windows?
    3. If Microsoft account, may I know which Microsoft account are you using to login to Windows

Meanwhile, we would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below to unlink your Microsoft business account from Gmail Microsoft account (If Microsoft Business account is linked to Gmail account).

    1. Log on to primary
      Microsoft account
      (Gmail).
    2. Go to Your Info > Contact Info.
    3. Click on Manage email address.
    4. Then try removing secondary account.

If you are trying to remove the account from the device, we would suggest you to refer

    To close your account
    under the section
    To remove an email account
and To remove an account used by apps and check if it helps.

    Regards.

Logging in to Microsoft account with the wrong email?

I received an email today that there has been suspicious login activity on my Microsoft account, associated with my Gmail address. My Microsoft account is rarely used and is under a Hotmail address. Now here is where it gets weird.

If I start the login process with my Gmail address, but use the password associated with the Hotmail address, I end up in the Hotmail account. The Gmail address is not set as an alias as far as I can tell, though it is set as a recovery email. There is no login activity for this account other than the logins I myself did.

If I start the log in process with my Gmail address, but use an email code to log in, I somehow end up in a separate account associated with the Gmail address . It has the same birth date info, and I am sure it is also mine (I probably made this at one point not realizing that my Hotmail account had become a Microsoft account). This is the account that has suspicious login attempts from foreign countries.

I am very confused as to what is happening here. Why am I able to log in to two accounts with the same credentials?

Edit: It gets wilder. I am trying to log in on the accounts from iOS Safari on my iPad, but the process seems very finicky. When I am logged in on one account, and I want to go into security settings, I am sometimes asked for my password again, but it will be under the email for the other account. Or when I log out on one, and then try to log in on the other, the first one's email will be locked in and I can only enter the password. I have also managed to end up on the Gmail account's account page while using my Hotmail account's credentials.

It also keeps asking for cookie confirmation long after I have already accepted or denied. It's all very strange. And I would love to talk it over with an actual person from Microsoft support but the support page just sends me in endless circles without ever getting to an actual person. Unless I lie about what is going on, maybe.
