On my Windows Surface, after a recent update, my system won't complete its boot-up process. My main screen appears, it recognizes me and login proceeds as normal, but no menu bar appears, the windows key is non-functional, but I am able to use the keyboard shortcut to bring up task manager. From it, I can run programs provided I know exactly where their executables are. If, however, that program sends a request to explorer for any reason, that fails to execute. Using Task Manager to restart windows may sometimes allow that request to execute, and sometines not. For example, an attempt to run C

          Did you made any recent changes to your computer prior to the issue?

          When you say “I cannot access the start menu and am limited to IP as a browser” Is it refers to Microsoft Edge?

Booting without press any key

@dhievm go ahead and list the model number that gives exact specs/info.


Does it stop right at the Toshiba logo and sit there? Will it sit forever til you press a key, or will it eventually work after so long?
